Darren Mason is a South London artist, songwriter and producer who treats genre as a starting point rather than a boundary. His music pulls soulful alt-pop, hip-hop and rock into the same orbit, with traces of jazz, blues, jungle, dream pop and experimental music. On stage he moves between singing, rapping, piano and tuba, combining multi-instrumental craft with improvisation, emotional directness and the restless energy of the city he calls home.

That live identity sits at the centre of Live from South London, a six-song audio and video project recorded at Morley College with Nick Burns, Lee Pittock and Richard Sackey-Addo. Part-funded by Help Musicians, the project captures Darren's songs in a full-band setting: intimate enough for every lyric to register, but alive with the tension and release of musicians responding to one another in the room. Songs including Price, Hope Makes Us Weak and Com Passion examine upbringing, uncertainty, hope and empathy without smoothing away their contradictions.

Darren's path into contemporary songwriting began with classical ensemble playing and tuba before expanding through DJing, production, singing and songwriting. His reference points range from pop, jazz, jungle, rock and rap. After releasing the album Hope + Fury and earning a 2022 Radio Wigwam Best Male Artist nomination, he continues to develop an independent body of work designed to connect most powerfully where it began: in front of a live audience.
